SSAI 6th Advanced Educational Programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine 2024-26

Advanced education programme for specialists in anaesthesiology, with a special interest in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, from the five Nordic countries*).

The Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI) co-ordinates an advanced Inter-Nordic education programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. The education programme is intended for specialists in anaesthesiology with interest in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. Applications for the 6th programme are now invited.

The programme lasts two years and consists of

  • Clinical training, working in a department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in one of the Nordic or other relevant country*).
  • Five SSAI residential courses in various Nordic countries and participation in the SSAI Congress 2026 (Reykjavik).
  • An exchange program of four consecutive weeks (or 2 x 2 consecutive weeks) in a foreign country.
  • A research project.

Certification

After fulfilling the Advanced Education Programme and passing the final exam, the candidate will be awarded a SSAI Certificate in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

Economy

The SSAI programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine is intended to be a self-sustaining, not-for-profit programme and all compulsory expenses for this program must be covered by the host clinic.

The cost of participation in the programme amounts to 70,000 DKR and covers residential courses (including accommodation and catering) and participation in the bi-annual SSAI congress, but not travelling.

The course fee is divided into two instalments payable in June 2024 and June 2025. Other arrangements concerning finances will have to be approved by the steering committee.

HOW TO APPLY

The following documents must be submitted:

  • A signed application form with motivation and plan for 2 years training: (Download here).
  • A questionnaire of experience, proposed lecture, planned research project and mentor during the programme: (Download above).
  • The signed SSAI-CTVA6 contract: (Download above).
  • A picture: A recent electronic picture of the applicant.

All documents should be merged into one single pdf file. The name of the file should clearly state the name of the applicant. The application should be sent by email to:
