4th Scandinavian Intensivist Meeting

The first Scandinavian Intensivist Meeting (SIM) was held in Helsinki in 2014 as an initiative to strengthen academia in Scandinavian intensive care medicine. The focus was on a thematic, single-session, low-budget meeting with short presentations, plenty of time for discussions, and a full social program. The SIM was held very successfully every second year from 2014 to 2018 in Helsinki and SSAI generously was the economic guarantee. The 2020 meeting planned in Copenhagen had to be canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. To avoid competition with the SSAI congress, the next SIM will be held from 10 to 12 May 2023 in Copenhagen.

The SIM 2023 theme is ‘Better life-support in ICU’ with a continued focus on a single-session, low-key meeting with interaction, networking, and a full social program. The interaction between ICU research, databases, and education has been strengthened. Specifically, the 5 Scandinavian ICU registries will discuss the role of the Nordic ICU registries in research in the 3 sessions on life-support, i.e. mechanical ventilation, vasopressor/inotropes, and renal replacement therapy. This will support the plenary, interactive talks, and free presentations given by young and senior colleagues.

The ACTA foundation generously supports the meeting, which means that SIM is independent of the industry, and the full meeting package is only 200 Euro including the full social program. Participants will have to arrange transport and accommodation themselves.

All healthcare professionals and academics involved in intensive care medicine are warmly welcomed in Copenhagen on May 10-12, 2023 to be inspired and educated and to network with colleagues and friends. If you have data to share, submit an abstract for presentation, so that we may discuss your work and learn from you.

The next SIM is planned to be in May 2025 and May 2027 also in Copenhagen.
