Klaus Olkkola nominated for next SSAI president
The Election Committee of the SSAI hereby announces the nomination for the next president of SSAI, to be elected at the General Assembly in Malmö in September 2017.
The Election Committee nominates professor Klaus Olkkola from Finland. The Committee is unanimous in this proposal.
Professor Klaus Olkkola is an esteemed member of the scientific community within our speciality and within our Society. Klaus Olkkola has declared that he would be honored to serve as the President of the SSAI. He has an impressive record of publications, consisting of approximately 220 original publications in English language and 100 reviews/book chapters/editorials. His Hirsch index is 43. He has extensive experience in organizing international meetings/congresses, e.g., Annual meeting of the European Academy of Anaesthesiology in 1995 in Helsinki, Euroanaesthesia 2010 in Helsinki and as Congress President of the SSAI Congress in 2013 in Turku. He is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Central Hospital and Director of Clinicum, the Institute of Clinical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. He has long experience both in university and hospital administration in two major University Hospitals (Turku and Helsinki). Klaus Olkkola has also extensive experience in international and national scientific societies. He has been, e.g., Member of the Board of Directors and Honorary Secretary of the European Academy of Anaesthesiology, Member of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Anaesthesiology, Member of the Board of Directors of the SSAI since 2011 and Member of the Board of Directors of the Finnish Society of Anaesthesiologists since 2011 and President since 2016. He is currently also member of the European Board of Anaesthesiology, the section of UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists). Professor Klaus Olkkola has long experience in the editorial boards of European Journal of Anaesthesiology, Scandinavian Journal of Pain and Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology. He is active reviewer for the Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica.
Being active also as a clinician some 60 hours per month, Klaus Olkkola is not too far from an ordinary anaesthesiologist.
