SSAI 7th advanced educational programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine 2026-28

SSAI-CTVA 7

Advanced education programme for specialists in anaesthesiology, from the Nordic countries*), with a special interest in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

The Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine co-ordinates this advanced Inter-Nordic education programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, intended for specialists in anaesthesiology with interest in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. Applications for the 7th programme are now invited.

The programme consists of

  • Two-year clinical training, employed in a Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine department in one of the Nordic or other relevant country*).
  • Five SSAI residential courses in held the Nordic countries and participation in the SSAI Congress 2028 (Sweden).
  • An exchange programme of four consecutive weeks (or 2 x 2 consecutive weeks) in a foreign country.
  • A minor research project.
  • Passing the SSAI-CTVA exam.

Certification

After fulfilling the Advanced Education Programme and passing the exam, the candidate will be awarded an SSAI certification (Diploma) in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

Expenses

The SSAI programme in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine is intended to be a self-sustaining, non-profit programme and all compulsory expenses for this programme must be covered by the host clinic.

The cost of participation in the programme amounts to 72,000 DKR and covers residential courses (including accommodation and catering) and participation in the bi-annual SSAI congress but not travelling.

The course fee is divided into two installments payable in June 2026 and June 2027. Other arrangements concerning finances must be approved by the steering committee.

How to apply

The following documents must be submitted:

  • A signed application form with motivation and plan for 2 years training.
  • The signed SSAI-CTVA7 contract.
  • The Information & Experience form with detailed personal, hospital and admin info, together with 2 proposed lectures, planned research project and supervisor during the programme.
  • A picture: A recent electronic picture of you.

The first two documents (application and contract) should preferable be merged into one single pdf file. The name of the file should clearly state the name of the applicant. The Information & Experience form should be filled, saved attached as an excel file. The application should be sent by email to:
